Sheriff's office starts donation fund for search efforts, drop-off site at Wapato

The following is the latest update from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. There are two briefs here. The first one details a new fund established with Bank of America to accept donations to the search efforts. A drop site has been established at the Wapato Jail in St Johns. The second is from Captain Monte Reiser updating the media on the general state of search efforts to date.
New fund established for Kyron Horman search
Proceeds will offset search costs, help other causes for missing and exploited children
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office announced today the creation of a new fund to offset the mounting expenses of the ongoing search for the missing 7-year-old Skyline Elementary student.
Anyone with information regarding Kyron Horman whereabouts is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office tip line, (503) 261-2847, or to dial 911 with emergency information.
Donations to the fund may be made at any Bank of America branch under the name “Kyron Horman Fund.” This fund has been officially established by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office; donors choosing to make donations to separate funds do so at their own risk.
Law enforcement and search personnel have come to the Portland area from every county in Oregon, with others joining from Washington state and Virginia. Nearly all of the searchers are volunteers or employees of counties or other government agencies, which are currently bearing the cost of the effort.
A separate effort is underway seeking donations of food and other goods for searchers. More info is available at Chair Jeff Cogen’s website: www.co.multnomah.or.us/chair.
Donations to governmental and tax-exempt agencies are generally tax deductible, but donors are advised to consult with their tax advisors prior to claiming deductions for such donations.

SECOND BRIEFING
Good Afternoon. I'm Capt Monte Reiser of the Multnomah County Sheriffs Office, and I'll be assuming the role of Incident Commander for this operational period regarding our continuing search for Kyron. First of all, in response to the continued outpouring of support from the community, and at the request of our Board of Commissioners, we have established a drop-off point for the community to donate nuts, packaged snacks, granola bars, bottled water and juices, and other non-persihable food items. The drop-off point will be at the Multnomah County Wapato Facility, located at 14355 North Bybee Lake Court in Portland, zip code 97203. The drop site will be available tomorrow for donated item drop off from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. I have a map to the Wapato Facility here, and will also provide a map on the web via www.flashalert.net/news.
We also continue to receive tips on our tip line at (503) 261-2847, and on our website at www.mcso.us.
Additionally, due to the sheer volume of requests, we have established a donation site through Bank of America to accept cash donations to support this effort. Also, additional information regarding drop sites for donations will be provided via the flashalert site.
Today we have engaged in an expanding search effort on multiple fronts. Here to update our search efforts is Lt. Col. Marti Plotner of the Oregon National Guard:
Lt. Col. Plotner:
Our air search continued throughout the day with two pilots and search and rescue personnel. FLIR was on board, and we plan to continue our operations for another hour and a half today, then begin again at 0900 tomorrow.
Captain Reiser:
Our investigation at this point remains ongoing. I realize that in earlier briefings Capt. Gates has not been able to answer all of your questions regarding the investigative portion of this operation. I do want to reiterate that we don't release many details of an ongoing investigation for a number of reasons:
-early release of information can affect the operational integrity of the investigation;
-new and incoming information is often unconfirmed and needs substantiation prior to release;
-misleading information can harm both search efforts and the investigation.
If there is information that will cause community participation that will aid in search and rescue efforts we will bring that information forward. I can tell you at this point that 100% of the students at Skyline Elementary have been interviewed, and that we continue to move forward with both full-scale search and rescue operations reaching into the night, as well as investigative efforts. We continue to receive support from not only our partnering agencies, but local groups, businesses and individual concerned citizens. This support continues to be overwhelming. We continue to seek any information you may have as this effort continues, and may be reported at our website or tip line reported earlier.
Regarding our decision to deploy only certified searchers, we are operating a large scale operation with an appropriate, manageable span of control. Each person supervising in the field directs only the amount of people they can effectively direct to search parameters and keep within safety guidelines. Search effectiveness can become prohibitive and safety compromised if too many searches are deployed specific to supervision. We are confident we have an appropriate amount of resources at this time to effectively conduct this expanding search operation.
Again, this is all about finding Kyron, and we are doing everything we can to achieve that.
