Reuse Week Kickoff at Community Warehouse

When:
Friday, June 12, 2009 - 12:00pm

From press release:

City Commissioner Nick Fish is joining County Commissioner Jeff Cogen  to proclaim Reuse Week this Wednesday, June 10 through June 18, 2009.
Reuse  Week promotes  the reuse and conservation of scarce resources  by diverting a wide variety of material from the waste stream.  The week spotlights how "reuse" can help many of our vulnerable citizens improve their lives through the reuse of donated household goods.
A vibrant community of reuse organizations has been steadily growing in Portland over the last decade.  Community Warehouse, SCRAP, Schoolhouse Supplies, the ReBuilding Center, Free Geek and ReStore will be acknowledged for promoting sustainable community livability.

“We are living in difficult times, and people in our community are struggling to get by,” says Fish, “It makes sense in these times to promote reuse as a community value.  Organizations like the Community Warehouse offer couches, mattresses and other household materials to families in need."

City Commissioner Nick Fish and County Commissioner Jeff Cogen, along with Kristy Wood, Director of Community Warehouse, will usher in this week of sustainability and aid for others by collection donations at the Community Warehouse site:
