This afternoon at 5:30pm, the first-ever Anna Bannanas vs. Ladybug Coffeehouse dodgeball grudge matched kicked off.  The event, held on the St Johns brownfield, was part micro-fundraiser for graffitti-fighter Dennis Kimple, part excuse to drink and part showdown between St Johns's two coffee powerhouses.

With St Johns Main Street Coalition activist Robin Plance reffing, the two teams of a dozen men, women and completely sober children squared off against one another.  The Anna's team quickly swept the opposition in an early surge that took out half the Ladybug team within minutes. But then, about 10 minutes into the game, the Ladybug team had eliminated all Anna's players from the field save 10-year-old Alexo Svob.  Alexo not once, but twice held off the Ladybug team, swelling the ranks of the Anna's side by catching balls and returning up to five players onto the field.  But in the end, the Anna's team proved no match and the Ladybug team won the day. Ladybug Cafe owner Angel O'Brien accepted the tournament's trophy: the "Golden Toiletseat."  The seat was donated by Crouchly Plumbing and was gilded and trophicificated by Bella Donna Beads.

"Where the hell am I gonna put this thing?" O'Brien wondered aloud. "I was kind of hoping I wouldn't win."
